A Bunch of Bull

I’m just about to head out to the practice field and see how I’m feeling and everything. A lot of people are wondering what happened on Sunday, why I didn’t play. Ultimately, it came down to how I felt at the end of the week. I went pretty hard in practice Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and I was feeling significant discomfort Friday and Saturday when I woke up.
So I decided not to go out there and risk getting hurt or, in my eyes, hurting the team by playing before I was ready and taking away from the team by not getting healthy.
Someone out here wrote a column today saying that I wasn’t going to come back and talked about how it related to my contract situation. But you can ask any of the news people around here, not once have I spoken about a contract or wanted money. My objective is to get out on the field and play when I’m healthy and it has nothing to do with my contract.
If you know anything about the CBA, if the contract doesn’t get done I still have to be here two more years anyway, so what’s going on now is definitely not about my contract.
That’s a bunch of bull. I wouldn’t dare do the fans or my teammates like that.
Times like these, some news people just need stories to create and I guess me not getting back on the field yet is something they want to use.
I just want you fans to know that the surgery I had was very serious. It’s not like I’m coming back from a pulled hamstring and can run back out there. There’s way more to it than that. Believe me when I tell you I’m pushing to get back on the field.
I’m anxious to get out there today and I look forward to Saturday to see how I feel after a hard week of practice. When I wake up hopefully everything will be alright and I’ll be ready to go on Sunday.
My plan is to go. But it will come down to a Saturday decision.

Wow, seasonticketholder, why do you insist on posting garbage on a fan site. Sidney is a player of the ut-most class and you are an idiot who thinks he knows everything about everything and that much more than everyone else. If you're so smart, then tell me what good would holding out on an injury do for him? Let's see, it's the last year of his contract, they had a chance to make a run at the Superbowl again, he was just voted to the probowl last year...hmmm... nope can't be very wise of him. People like you just need to shut it and now that it's a good month after all these posts, let's evaluate his decision in retrospect: he's back to his Pro Bowl form and fully healthy, ready to pick up where he left off and ready to play years and years...yup good decision. Still gunna hate on him?? p.s. Sidney, you're the best receiver in the league..hands down. The way you go up and fight for balls is second to none...Larry Fitzgerald-like. As an ex-baller, i admire your play and hope you stay healthy for the rest of your career!
Sid.. THANKS FOR THE GAME BALL!!! You are such a beast on the field! I’ve been a season ticket holder since 98 and you are one of the most exciting, classiest players I've had the privilege of watching. Yesterday (Dec. 5th) for the Bills game I gave my normal season tickets away and bought front row end-zone tickets because I was bringing my 10 year old son and wanted to give him an experience of a lifetime...but I had no clue how big it would be for him. He is a big Viking fan, but a huge Sidney Rice fan. After your second touchdown you walked up to him and handed him the game ball touchdown catch. He was speechless..but only for the moment. The rest of the game and the whole way home its all he talked about. I know he will never forget this experience and I wanted to thank you very much! What a class act, 100% professional. Love the way you play the game and the effort you show on the field. You are the type of player every team hopes they get. Glad to have you back on the field and hope you stay healthy. Again, thank you so much for creating a lifetime memory for the both of us! Good luck the rest of the season!
Glad you are back Sid da Kid! I am not worried at all about your contract at all. I am just glad you are back. It will be fun to watch you finish out the season and to see you back next year!
I agree totally with purple&goldpride - seasonticketholder - you are an embarrassment to MN. You are what is wrong with sports and why sportsmanship is hard to come by. I suppose you BOO the team when they make mistakes or don't play well? Geez- Please remove yourself from the "Viking Fan" category and move to Green Bay. I for one will remain a fan even if we have a season with zero wins - because that is what FANS do! Go Sidney Rice and Go Vikes!
seasonticketholder again just shows how must of a damn ignorant bastard he really is. i really like the fact that seasonticketholder is so called speaking for vikings fans, when almost every comment on here is wishing sidney the best and supporting him, and he is the only one talking shit. what really gets me the most is that seasonticketholder is speaking as if him and sidney have been best friends for a while and he knows what he is thinking and how he feels. if you pay attention and not run off at your mouth so much, you would see that sidney has said he is going to play sunday. so seasonticketholder, go back to your lonley and miserable life and not worry about what anybody on the vikings team is doing. hell you should sell your tickets (if you really have them) and and go back to wishing you were ever able to play any sport now or ever. (kickball) doesn't count
Hope to see you against GB on Sunday... your team needs you...Skol Brother!!!!
Rice, you're the man, just ignore the media. MN fans want you back, but only when you're ready. We definitely need you for the Packers game and every other game for the rest of the season, but like you said, hip surgery is serious. If I was in your place I wouldn't rush back. Wait until you can make an impact. "seasonticketholder", you must be really proud of continuing to play World of Warcraft, even after getting carpal tunnel. No offense, but, it's not quite the same as a hip injury.
seasonticketholder why would Sidney purposely delay his surgery when he knew Brett was coming back and this team was picked by many to reach the Super Bowl this season? You're right though, if I was on a team that's Super Bowl ready I would wait to have surgery too and not be able to play. Goooood idea.
Kids like purple&goldpride are delusional. They haven't got a clue as to why fans call out athletes like Rice. We do so because we have played and played hurt (hockey, football and baseball) and never got paid at the level today's prima donna athletes do. Meatheads like p&gp need to step into the real world and understand Sid is manipulating his fan base, while his agent orchestrates everything else to provide Rice a buffer from the powers that in the Vikings organization. Simpletons like p&gp assign themselves blindly to guys like Rice, somehow feeling "connected" to the player because he "defended" him and his honor. Wake up you dumbass. The NFL is a business and Rice purposefully delayed the surgery to extort a new contract out of his employer, the MN Vikings. Instead he screws the pooch by waiting too long and ends up on the PUP with August surgery. Rice is no savior; he is a one year (2009) good player, nothing more. And now he's screwed himself by following horrible professional advice from Rosenhaus. No sympathy here and from a lot of other fans because Rice turned his back on his team months ago. All of this "noise" from Rice and what few town idiot fans that still support him (see p&gp) equals nothing. Saturday at 3:00 PM CSDST will provide the answer. I, along with thousands of others are betting Rice does not play this weekend, or the rest of the season, that's why the NFL Ticket Exchange, Craigslist, Stub Hub, Ticket King and other outlets have thousands of tickets for sale from season ticket holders. And if he does play, smart money says he get nicked, stays out of the rest of the game and shuts it down next week for the rest of the year. Hopefully Rice plays the next NFL season (2012, cause they won't play in 2011) as an Arizona Cardinal having been traded with some picks for Larry Fitzgerald, a guy that NEVER failed to play a game, let down team mates or fans.
Sorry Sid, You have talked about your contract. Saying that you are not concerned about your contract is a smart players way to bring up their contract. In this case, the quote being from your own blog, you can not say that a question from an outside source prompted the topic. You brought up your contract unwarrented. Most likely for the same reason that Randy Moss brought up his contract at the beginning of the season for the Patriots. Childress got an extension, Winfeld got one, Cedric Griffen did too, and Favre got a raise. Why not you, right? It would make sense for you to feel like that, but I hope that you don't. If you don't play this season, and you become a free agent, then leave the Vikings for another team, I think it would be a tragedy. I really enjoyed watching you play your first three seasons. But that is business right? Here is your quote: "People are going to say what they want to say about my contract or whatever, I’m not really worried about that at this point. My main focus is getting back on the field and performing at a high level like I did last year and helping the Vikings win a Super Bowl. It’s not my concern what people say about my contract, whatever happens, happens. If the Vikings decide to give me an extension, that’s great. If not, life goes on. I’ll continue to work hard and do everything I can to be successful in what I’ve been doing my whole life, and that’s playing football." -From MY SURGERY by Sidney Rice (August 25th 2010)
